This work, “Turkey Prisons Almanac 2015,” compiles press coverage of Turkey’s prisons published over the course of 2015. It is a first of its kind — both for the Civil Society in the Penal System Association / Turkey’s Center for Prison Studies (CİSST / TCPS) and for the field of prison studies more broadly. We intend to continue producing these almanacs in future years, circumstances permitting, and believe they will serve as an important resource for work carried out in the field of prisons.
We conceived and prepared the almanac as a data bank for the field of prisons. Thanks to it, researchers working in this area can now see, as a whole, what was on the agenda of Turkey’s prisons in 2015 and how that agenda was reflected in the press. The book is free of charge and can be accessed online via the Civil Society in the Penal System Association (CİSST) website, or obtained from the association’s office.
