In the chapter I contributed, I lay out Turkey’s criminal justice policies through statistical data; I argue that the “probation” practice actually draws more people into the penal system rather than fewer, that the prison population keeps rising despite the intensive use of probation, and that the ongoing “transition from ward-type to campus-type prisons” is laying the ground for further rights violations.
