This handbook was written out of the knowledge — and the concern — that human rights violations can occur more intensively in closed institutions such as prisons and psychiatric hospitals. Its purpose is to explain to prisoners the rights they continue to hold despite being incarcerated, and to inform them where and how to apply when those rights are violated.

We hope it reaches many prisoners and becomes one of the tools they can use to protect their rights. The book is free of charge and can be accessed online via the Civil Society in the Penal System Association (CİSST) website, or obtained from the association’s office.
